Over 50 years ago Fred Burdett
started working for himself in the passenger transport business
by taking people to and from the seaside resort of Skegness on
the East coast of England. As this and other work increased he
bought his first two full size coaches in the late 1960s. In
the early 1970s his eldest son Jeff joined the now thriving family
business and a couple of years later his other son David joined
the company.
A true family business had been created as Fred's wife Joyce
also took an active daily role in the company. Over the next
few years the business expanded and several more coaches were
purchased. However, it was decided early on to concentrate on
providing a high quality service and to this end the company
bought its first two new coaches in 1980. These two new coaches
enabled Burdetts Coaches to work on the incoming tourist market
where Jeff and David along with Keith Bramhall, who was employed
by the Burdetts worked for Clarkes of London Coaches, transporting
thousands of tourists around London, England and Scotland. It
was whilst working for Clarkes of London that Burdetts Coaches
of Sheffield learned the speciall skills needed to work with
incoming tour groups and both Jeff and David owe an enormous
ammount of thanks to Bill Clarke himself for all his help those
many years ago. Over the next decade more new coaches were purchased
at regular intervals to replace older vehicles and the company
soon earned a reputation for quality and reliability. |
